For maximum plant efficiency, improved and safer working conditions, the economical process for handling molten metals is through a gravity-feed launder system. The Lindberg/MPH launder system designed along the same parameters as the Holimesy electric holding furnaces, has proven to reduce energy costs by at least 1/3. This cost-effective, energy-efficient alternative to conventional outmoded and hazardous molten metal transport methods can be adapted to fit new or existing facilities.

BENEFITS

  • REDUCED HANDLING COSTS
Molten metal flows from the central melting furnace through the launder system to the casting station by gravity feed. This significantly reduces time and labor expenses as well as the equipment investment normally required for manual transfer methods.

  • LOWER METAL LOSSES
The use of one central melting furnace plus the fully covered design of the launder substantially reduces metal loss due to oxidation.

  • SAFER WORKING CONDITIONS
Lindberg/MPH launders generate no hot gases or combustible products and are completely covered, eliminating the hazards of exposed molten metal and radiant heat to the work area.

  • GREATER ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Extensive use of ceramic plates and fiber insulation minimizes energy consumption. The typical Lindberg/ MPH launder system is rated at 560 watts per foot of launder but uses only about 300 watts per foot under normal process conditions.

  • MINIMAL MAINTENANCE COSTS
The low mass ceramic plate lining provides long service life. launder thermocouples also achieve long life because they are located between the melt and the insulated launder cover to avoid corrosive effects of the hot metal. Pneumatic-lift cover sections make inspection or cleaning easy to perform. Air cylinder can be on or opposite hinged side to suit.
